The Motto of NSS Reflects essence of democratic living and need for selfless service.
‼ Symbol ‼
The Symbol of NSS is based on Rath Wheels of the Konark Sun temple.
The giant wheels portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release, and signify the movement in life across time and space.
‼ Badge ‼
NSS Badge has eight bars of konark wheel representing 24 hours.
It reminds the wearer to be in readiness for service of the nation round the clock l.e 24 hours.

Introduction
National Service Scheme (NSS) is a noble experiment in academic extensions. It inculcates the spirit of voluntary work among the students and teachers through sustained community interactions. It brings our academic institutions closer to society. It shows how to combine knowledge and action to achieve results which are desirable for community development. Over the years, NSS has emerged India’s largest student youth movement in linking with the community.
Objectives
The main objective of NSS is
Personality development through community service
NSS specifies 10 objectives for the volunteers as-
1] To understand the community in which they work
2] To understand themselves in relation to their community.
3] To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem
Solving process
4] To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
5] To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community
Problems.
6] To develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibility
7] To gain Skills in mobilizing community participation.
8] To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude.
9] To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.
10] To practice national integration and harmony.
NSS IN THE COLLEGE
National Service Scheme unit of the college was established in June 1976 with the strength of 25 volunteers. Shri A.O. Magre (Head, Department of History) was the founder programme officer. He worked as the programme officer for two years from 1976-1978.
Dr. N.A. Mote (Lecturer in Chemistry) was then appointed as the programme officer of the NSS unit in 1976. He worked as the NSS programme officer for 17 years from 1978 to 1995. During his tenure he worked as the NSS co-ordinator of Latur district and also as a member of NSS advisory committee of Marathwada University Aurangabad for four years.
Shri L.K. Gatcherle (Lecturer in Commerce) joined as the second programme officer in19991. Taking into consideration the outstanding work of Dr. N.A. Mote, S.R.T.M.U Nanded appointed him as the founder programme co-ordinator of the university during 10th May 1995 to 30th June 1999. Therefore, Dr. N.S. Dharmadhikari (Head, Department of Mathematics) was appointed as the programme officer and worked up to March 2003.
Shri L.K.Gatcherle worked as NSS co-ordinator of Latur district in the academic years 2004-2005 and 2005-2006. He has been awarded the best programme officer in 2004-2005.
Shri L.D. Jogdand (Lecturer in English) who was appointed as the second programme officer in 2003-2004 has been working as the programme officer since June 2005. Shri N.T. Deshmukh is appointed as the second programme officer in June 2005.
Dr.N.T.Deshmukh (Assi.Prof.in Geography) has been worked as the programme officer in June 2013. Dr.Smt.R.A.Jadhav is appointed as the second programme officer in June 2013.
Two hundred and twenty five NSS volunteers are working in two NSS units. The Government of Maharashtra has selected few colleges for carrying out NSS activities at plus two levels. Our college is one of those few selected colleges. There is one NSS unit of hundred volunteers and one programme officer at plus two levels in the college.
Our college has introduced the NSS unit with the aim of imparting social and moral values along with education. The NSS unit of college has undertaken multifarious activities through its regular activities and special Camping programmes such as Blood Donation, AIDS Awareness, Literacy Campaign, Tree Plantation, National Integration, Water shed Management and Waste Land Development, Eradication of Social Evils, Andhshraddha Nirmoolan, Rural Reconstruction, Relief for Earthquake Affected, Small Family Norms, Anti Dowry Campaign, Child Labour, Beautification of College campus, Women’s Conventions, Orientation on National and Social Problems, Gender Justice, Pulse Polio Campaign, Farmers’ Conventions, Youth Conventions, Vivek Vahini, Communal Harmony, Congress Grass Eradication etc.

Activities undertaken
(Regular Activities)
1] Blood Donation Camp
As a commitment to society, the NSS unit of the college organizes Blood Donation camp every year on 2nd Oct. on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation we organize a rally to create awareness among the people regarding blood donation so far. The blood group of all of them was detected and conveyed to the concerned donor. It also helps to identify the diseases like Aids, Typhoid, Malaria and Hepatitis etc.
2] Pulse Polio Campaign
The volunteers of NSS unit of this college participate in Pulse Polio Vaccination programme conducted by Government of India every time. Volunteers voluntarily participate in Pulse Polio Campaign along with the civil hospital authorities every time.
3] Tree Plantations
Tree plantations activities are undertaken every year during the Communal Harmony Fortnight and Special Camping Programmme by the NSS unit of this college. Thus, the NSS cell of this college participates in beautification of college campus. It also helps to keep the campus pollution free. Over Two thousand trees have been planted and nurtured by the NSS cell of this college so far.
Special Camp.
The NSS unit of the college arranges a special residential camp of ten days duration in the selected Villages from Ahmedpur Taluqa every year. The special camp are arranged on the special themes such as youth for National Integration, Youth for Literacy, Youth for Rural Reconstruction, Youth for Water Shed Management & Water &Land Development, Youth for Healthy India etc.
Activities undertaken during the special camping are:
i] Latrine Pits
The NSS volunteers of this college latrine pits in villages during the camp to create awareness amongst villagers regarding cleanliness.
1] Compost Pits
NSS volunteers of this college famous for constructing compost pits.
2] Women’s Conventions.
NSS unit of the college organizes women’s conventions during the annual camping programme. So far 27women convention are organized by this college from 1977 to 2006.
3] Farmers’ Conventions
Farmers’ conventions are organized every year during the special camping programme by the NSS unit of this college. So far 30 farmer’s conventions are organized by the unit from 1977 to 2006 to create awareness amongst farmers regarding water management, use of pesticides, dry Farming cultivation etc.
4] AIDS Awareness Programmes
The NSS unit of this college organizes a rally every year on 1st Dec. to crest awareness among the people regarding AIDS.
We organize lecturers on AIDS during the special camping programme every year.
The college NSS unit has taken part in AIDS Awareness programmes. The volunteers went in to 50 villages & acquainted the villages about the cause affect and remedies of the AIDS.
5] Water Shed Management programme
Water shed management programme is undertaken by NSS unit of this college during the camp.
Youth Leadership Camp
The NSS unit of our college organized youth leadership camp in the years 1985, 1986 and 1999. Nearly 300 volunteers participated in these leadership camps. These volunteers were taught how to lead the others successfully.
Incentives:
1) NSS Certificate by University after completing 240 work hours and a Special Residential Camp.
2) Additional 05 marks in the final year if a volunteer with above eligibility donates the blood.
