- Introduction:
Sociology is one of the most important branches of social science. Sociology is the systematic and scientific study of society. Therefore, sociology studies the relationship of the humans as well as their social behaviors. It studies the change in society and social planning. It helps us to understand the social problem and the psychology of fashion. The department of Sociology has been working to create the students with all capacities to face the problems in the society. They are also provided the knowledge to live in society properly.
- History:
Mahatma Gandhi Mahavidhyalaya was established in 1969 and in 1973 Dept. of Sociology commenced its working under the able headship of Prof. P. L Bansod. Thousands of students have completed their graduation till date. The head has to have credit of two books namely Social Institution and Indian Social Problems. He retired on 30 June 2008. Prof. U.V Chopde took over the headship from 1 July 2008 and is ably handing the responsibility on 2016. Dr. B.K Patil took over the headship from 12 august 2024 to till date. There are 4024 books in the department and are made available to students. The department has been working for bright future of the students who are the most integral part of any society.
