History of the department
Mahatma Gandhi College was established in 1969 and in 1973 Dept. of sociology commenced its working under the able headship of prof. P.L. Bansod thousands of students have completed their graduation till date. The head has to to his creadit two books namely Social Institution, Indian Social Problems. He completed his M.Phil. from the Marathwada UniversityAurangabad and retired on 30th June 2008. Prof. U.V. Chopde took over the headship from 1 July 2008 & is ably handling the responsibility till date. There are 3924 books of the dept. on which Rs.399873/- have been spent. The department makes the following magazines & weekly to the faculty & the students regularly viz Social Reformers, Kurukshetra, Samaj Probadhan Patrika, Sadhana etc.
About HOD:-
Prof.U.V. Chopde was working as a faculty in the dept. since 1/10/1975 & was promoted to the head of the dept. post in July 2008. He is awarded state level Adhyatmratn Award by the airpersons hands of his excellency Shivraj Patil Chakurkar Governer Punjab. By the Mairs MIT Pune in the year 2010 at Rui Rameshwar.
