Introduction:

Political Science is a field of Social Science which deals with the theory and practice of everything related to politics.  Political Science involves the study of the political behavior, system and the political structure of the country.  It is a very broad field which incorporates the study of historical and modern systems, governmental policies and procedures, foreign policies, public administration, international relations and public affairs.  In other words, it is a social science that involves the study of governmental systems and general principles that govern the world of politics.            Political science plays a significant role in our daily lives.Itplays an important role in the development of future leaders. It is an excellent subject best suited for students interested in learning how groups of people govern themselves, how policies are made, and how we can improve our government policies at the local, state, national and international levels. The department of Political Science has been trying to cultivate the qualities among such students for building up the nation.

History:

The Department of Political Science was established in the year 1969.  MrJ.R. Shinde joined the department in 1969 and worked till 1971.  Mr P.R. Rao joined the department in 1971 and worked till 1972.Dr. B.L. Jorgulwar and and Mr M.S. Hasbe joined the department in 1971 and 1973 respectively.Prof. Jorgulwar has published six textbooks.He retired in 2005. Prof. M.S. Hasbe retired in 2008. Shri. S.B. Shinde has been serving in department since 2009. He is working as the head of the department. The result of B.A. Third year is 90.90 percent in the year 2014 in the university examination. 10 out of 11 students have passed the examination; and among them 02 students have passed in first class with distinction and 05 students passed in first class. The teachers of the department of the political science have been making sincere efforts to improve the result as well as to raise the academic standard of the students. It is also motivating the students for advanced learning and encouraging the students to participate in various activities to achieve all round personality development of the students.

Ku. Talware Pornima Sugriv was the First rank in BA IIIrd summar exam 2017 and same year four student passed in the Ist class with distinction from M.G college Ahmedpur.

Five student first class with distinction in the summer exam 2018 and four student passed in first class

Department Special Achievement was Patil Sonali Murlidhar achieved first rank with two gold medal in the S.R.T.M.U Nanded  summer exam 2019  in the subject of political science.

Vision:

The department aims at striving for social, economic and political transformation of the people around, for sustainable development through teaching research and extension activities. It also aims to produce the students with the capacities of making country’s future bright.

Mission and Goals:

  • To enable the students to understand democratic processes and adopt them in all walks of life.
  • To teach the students to understand and to link freedom with equality, justice, politics with morality.
  • To provide deep knowledge to the students and developanalytical skills and outlook among the students to understand and solve the complex problems in society.
  • To encourage interdisciplinary understanding for all-round development of the students considering their future roles and responsibilities.
  • To make the students understand and use Indian Socio- Cultural and Political heritage and value system and make use of  them in the process  of developing international humanism and peace.

Objectives:

  • To develop the political consciousness among the students.
  • To develop the Leadership among the students.
  • To understand the structure of Indian Government and Politics.
  • To understand the Indian Policies in International relations.
  • To acquaint the studentswith various issues (ex-terrorism, feminism, Human Rights, Environmentalism)
  • To analyze political concepts and theories.
  • To develop the consciousness among the students about their Rights and Duties.

Co-curricular activities:

  • Seminar/Group Discussion: The seminars and group discussions are conducted by the department every year. Two seminars and group discussionsare conducted in every semester.

  • To encourage student for me local politics political participation and local leadership to create of knowledge through applied research
  • Academic 2016-17 during the year four students admitted to post graduate political science subject other institutes for further education after receiving degree

Three student qualifying academic year 2016-17 and one student join in Indian Army and two student join in state Gov. Services

  • Academic 2017-18 during the year two students admitted to post graduate in political science subject. Five student qualifying academic year 2017-18 one Student join in police service and four student join in private sector.
  • Academic 2018-19 during the year three student admitted to post graduate in political science subject six student qualifying academic year 2018-19 one student join the state police service and one student law completed five student join in private sector.

SWOC ANALYSIS

Strengths:

  • Qualified staff.
  • Renowned Library with academic and other books.

Weaknesses:

  • Lack of English knowledge among students.
  • Drop out of the students in a large number.
  • Irregularity of the students.

Opportunities:

  • Good employment potential, particularly for public services.
  • Scope for creation of knowledge through applied research.
  • Scope for inter-disciplinary courses required for various competitive examinations.
  • Scope in Teaching and Political Leadership.

Challenges:
